Back in the lead-up to the US presidential elections, an Internet survey (and yes, we all know how reliable those are) assessed George W Bush's popularity around the globe. As I recall, the response was well into the six figures, and overall he sat on about 24% approval, while in New Zealand and Australia it was closer to 21%.
At the time, his approval rating in the US was somewhere in the 45%-50% region, which under Diebold rules gave him a clear mandate after the votes were, um, counted. (Mandate, coincidentally, is the brand name of an aftershave given to me some twenty years ago that I have yet to finish.)
My question is this: now that his approval rating domestically is somewhere in the region of 34% or less, what could it be internationally? Inquiring minds would like to count the digits.
On to the comic relief. This image needs no introduction:
A copy's been pinned up in the kitchen area at work (I didn't put it up) for months, soliciting captions. There's only four been offered, the lamest of which was probably mine:
- The early bird...
- Terence the Turkey checked whether George was paltry
- Takes an old pecker to know one
- Not involved in a babe scandal - good on ya mate
I like the second - didn't recognise the handwriting.

Mentis, I say his aproval rating internationally is lower than whale chit. He's got to be the most hated man in the world. And rightfully so.
It's a long way to the bottom of the Marianas Trench, Mule.
We don't like him much in Canada, but he don't like us much either. Mentis, whereya been? JC General just isn't the same without you!
I think his only fans are his family and I'm not so sure where his dad stands.
Captions? did someone say captions? Ooh, captions are my specialty. I love captions!
