U.S. Tax Dollars At Work

More than half your federal taxes go to the Department of Defense. Some countries, like Saudi Arabia, spend a larger proportion of their GDP on defence, but the U.S. nevertheless spends roughly as much on defence as the rest of the world put together. (Whether it's more or less probably depends on whether you factor in the funding of George's Excellent Adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq through supplementary spending bills.)

For all that money you get this:
US Army Asks Deceased To Re-Enlist

The US Army said that it will apologise to the families of deceased and wounded officers that it mistakenly encouraged to re-enlist via letters sent out in late December.

About 75 families of deceased officers and 200 families of wounded officers received such letters sent to more than 5,100 officers between Dec. 26 and 28, the Army said in a statement.

I'd ask for a refund if I were you, though I must admit the rest of the world sleeps sounder a little less nervously knowing incompetence is a great money-waster.
